Description
Seen in lateral profile, the calvaria and facial skeleton align with the overlying soft-tissue silhouette, with the frontal bone and nasal bones anterior to the sphenoid and temporal region, and the occipital bone forming the posterior cranial vault. The mandible sits inferior to the maxilla, its body and ramus framing the dental arcade and temporomandibular joint just anterior to the external acoustic meatus. Posterior to the auricular region, the mastoid process of the temporal bone projects inferiorly, while the cervical vertebrae stack from C1 to C7 along the posterior neck, curving into the superior thoracic inlet. Inferior and anterior, the clavicle and upper ribs relate to the scapula and proximal humerus at the shoulder girdle, and the hyoid bone suspends in the anterior neck between the mandible and laryngeal framework.
