Presented from an anterior perspective, the T11 (eleventh thoracic) vertebra is centered on the vertebral body, with the pedicles arising posterolaterally and forming the lateral margins of the vertebral foramen. Near the junction of the body and pedicle, a single, nearly circular superior costal facet is visible on each side, positioned laterally for articulation with the head of the corresponding rib. The transverse processes project laterally, while the spinous process and laminae sit posteriorly and are largely de-emphasized from this viewpoint. T11 is a transitional level in the thoracic spine, and its rib articulation helps learners distinguish typical thoracic vertebrae from the upper lumbar pattern below. That single costal facet is a dependable landmark when teaching rib head alignment at the thoracolumbar junction and when correlating pain patterns from lower thoracic zygapophysial joints versus costovertebral sources. It also matters in operative planning and reporting for fractures at T11, where vertebral body collapse or burst injury can threaten the spinal canal and alter rib mechanics at the same time.
