Description
Prominent coronary vasculature courses across the sternocostal (anterior) surface of the male heart, with the right coronary artery running in the right atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus and the left coronary artery dividing into the anterior interventricular (left anterior descending) and circumflex branches. Along the anterior interventricular sulcus, the anterior interventricular artery descends toward the apex, accompanied by the great cardiac vein, while the circumflex artery tracks leftward in the atrioventricular groove toward the obtuse margin. Superiorly, the ascending aorta rises centrally with the pulmonary trunk positioned anterior and left to it before bifurcating into the right and left pulmonary arteries. For teaching coronary perfusion, an anterior view clarifies which conduits supply the anterior walls of the ventricles and the interventricular septum, and it makes the course of the LAD easy to follow from its origin to the apical region.
