Description
Oriented as an anterior (palmar-facing) view while emphasizing dorsal structures, this hand illustration isolates the dorsal metacarpal ligaments spanning the bases of the metacarpals as a transverse fibrous layer deep to the dorsal extensor apparatus. Individual metacarpal bases align proximodistally with the carpal row proximally, while the ligamentous bands run predominantly mediolaterally, tethering adjacent metacarpals and limiting separation at the carpometacarpal region. Carpal bones at the wrist articulation and the proximal shafts of the metacarpals provide the bony framework, with selected ligament components highlighted in blue for fast visual parsing.
