Flexor Digitorum Profundus Under the Skin, Anterior View

Description

Running along the anterior compartment of the male forearm, the flexor digitorum profundus occupies the deepest flexor layer, tucked posterior (deep) to flexor digitorum superficialis and medial to the radial-sided flexor pollicis longus. Proximally, its broad muscle belly arises from the anterior and medial ulna and the interosseous membrane, then narrows into four tendons that pass distally beneath the superficial flexors toward the wrist and palm. At the level of the carpus, the long finger flexor tendons align deep to the palmar aponeurosis and converge toward the digital rays, with the profundus slips continuing to the bases of the distal phalanges while the superficialis tendons split more superficially in the digits (Camper chiasm). Skin is retained, emphasizing depth. Depth matters here.
