Superiorly, hepatic parenchyma conforms to the domed diaphragm; inferiorly it approaches the transverse colon and proximal duodenum. Surface anatomy matters here. Clinically, an anterior liver view supports bedside correlation for hepatomegaly, where the inferior margin becomes palpable below the right costal margin on deep inspiration, and for right upper quadrant pain patterns seen with acute hepatitis or hepatic congestion.
