Description
Centered beneath the right hemidiaphragm, the male liver fills the right hypochondrium and reaches medially into the epigastrium, its superior convex surface tucked under the costal margin formed by ribs 7 to 11. The right lobe dominates laterally, while the left lobe tapers across the midline toward the left costal margin; the inferior border descends toward the right subcostal plane. Semi-transparent anterior ribs, costal cartilages, and the sternum frame the organ, with the vertebral column aligned posteriorly as a midline reference for thoracoabdominal orientation. Hepatic parenchyma is rendered as a solid mass against the skeletal silhouette. Anterior skeletal context makes this view useful when teaching surface anatomy and percussion landmarks for hepatomegaly, where the liver edge may become palpable inferior to the right costal margin in congestive hepatopathy or acute hepatitis.
