Medial to this depression, the hepatic hilum (porta hepatis) sits between the fissure for the ligamentum teres and the fossa for the gallbladder, while the quadrate and caudate lobes frame the central groove complex. Posterolaterally, the bare area margins and the vicinity of the inferior vena cava groove orient the viewer to the posterior surface. A tactile landmark.
