Description
Left pulmonary inferior lobar bronchus is presented in relation to the left main bronchus and the adjacent lower lobe (lobus inferior pulmonis), with the airway coursing inferiorly and laterally toward the basilar bronchopulmonary segments. Branching into segmental bronchi would be expected distal to the lobar origin, running alongside accompanying pulmonary arteries while pulmonary veins tend to lie more anterior and inferior within the intersegmental planes. Medially, the bronchus sits near the hilum and peribronchial connective tissue, while the visceral pleura forms the peripheral boundary of the lower lobe. Clinical work often turns on correctly identifying the inferior lobar bronchus because it is a common pathway for aspirated material in dependent lung regions, and it is routinely evaluated during bronchoscopy when investigating postobstructive atelectasis or hemoptysis. Orientation at the left hilum matters.
