The pancreatic tail lies medial to the splenic parenchyma, approaching the spleen within the splenorenal (lienorenal) ligament, so the resulting pancreatic impression sits posterior to the gastric impression and superior to the colic impression. Hilary landmarks for entry and exit of the splenic artery and vein frame this area, and the relationship to the left kidney and suprarenal region is implied by the medial orientation. Subtle topography matters here. Recognizing the splenic pancreatic impression has practical value when teaching how the pancreatic tail reaches the left upper quadrant and why it is the portion of the pancreas most closely associated with the spleen.
