Description
The maternal torso is shown in profile with the abdominal wall rendered semi-transparent so the gravid uterus, amniotic cavity and fetus at approximately 27 weeks of gestation remain fully visible. The fetus lies in a cephalic position, the head engaged toward the lower uterine segment and pelvic inlet, with the spine curved along the maternal anterior abdomen and the flexed upper and lower limbs drawn toward the trunk. The umbilical cord loops between the fetal abdomen and the placental surface, while the cervix, vagina, urinary bladder and pelvic bone are indicated beneath the uterine fundus.
