Description
A pregnant woman's torso is presented in profile, the skin and abdominal wall rendered semi-transparent so the gravid uterus and neighbouring pelvic viscera read through the body surface. At approximately 14 weeks of gestation the fetus lies curled within the amniotic cavity, head flexed toward the chest with limbs drawn in, connected by the umbilical cord to the uterine wall. The uterine fundus has risen just above the pubic symphysis into the lower abdomen, displacing loops of small intestine superiorly and posteriorly.
