Description
Running along the inner aspect of the superior pubic ramus, the pecten pubis (pectineal line) appears as a sharp, elevated ridge that arcs posterolaterally from the pubic tubercle toward the iliopubic eminence at the junction with the ilium. As the animation progresses, the hip bone is oriented to clarify the relationship between the pubic crest anterosuperiorly, the obturator crest and obturator foramen inferiorly, and the pelvic brim formed where the pecten meets the arcuate line of the ilium. Rotational movement exposes how the ridge sits medial to the acetabulum and superior to the obturator canal region. A clean bony landmark. Teaching value comes from tying this line to the pelvic inlet and to the attachments that use it as a reference: pectineus arises from the pecten pubis, and the pectineal (Cooper) ligament represents a thickened extension of the lacunar ligament along the pecten. That matters in groin surgery, where mesh fixation, femoral hernia repair, or a “Cooper’s ligament repair” relies on accurate identification of the pecten and its proximity to the femoral vein just lateral to the lacunar ligament. An animated turn around the superior pubic ramus makes the pelvic brim easier to grasp than a single still, because the ridge’s obliquity and its continuity with the iliopectineal line become obvious only as the viewpoint changes. Use this animation in gross anatomy labs and pelvic osteology modules when students handle a hip bone and struggle to identify the pelvic inlet landmarks by palpation. It also fits surgical education for inguinal and femoral hernia approaches, and for medical publishing captions discussing the iliopectineal line, pectineus origin, or Cooper ligament fixation points. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
