Anterior thoracoabdominal anatomy is presented on a white adult female figure with the heart centered in the middle mediastinum and the great vessels radiating superiorly and inferiorly along the midline. The ascending aorta continues into the aortic arch and proximal descending thoracic aorta, while the pulmonary trunk emerges anteriorly from the right ventricle and bifurcates toward the lungs; the superior vena cava lies to the right of the ascending aorta as it returns blood to the right atrium. Inferiorly, the systemic outflow and venous return continue as the abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava, positioned retroperitoneally just anterior to the vertebral column. Clinically, this combined cardiothoracic and abdominal presentation supports teaching of how the pericardium and diaphragm relate to subdiaphragmatic organs, a recurring point in interpreting inferior myocardial ischemia, pericardial effusion effects, and operative approaches that cross the thoracoabdominal junction.
