Description
Shown on a lateral view of a male skull model, the inferior oblique extraocular muscle is positioned along the anteromedial floor of the orbit, arising from the maxilla just lateral to the nasolacrimal canal and running posteriorly and laterally beneath the globe. Its belly crosses inferior to the inferior rectus muscle, then turns to insert on the posterolateral sclera, placing it inferior to the lateral rectus insertion and anterior to the equator of the eye.
