Seen in lateral profile, the bony framework of the male foot is organized from the posterior calcaneus and talus to the anterior metatarsals and phalanges, with the cuboid forming the lateral column between the calcaneus and the bases of the fourth and fifth metatarsals. Superiorly, the talar trochlea sits between the medial and lateral malleolar facets (only the lateral contour implied in this view) and continues anteriorly into the talonavicular region, while inferiorly the calcaneus projects posteriorly as the tuber calcanei. The lateral longitudinal arch is readable as a continuous curve from calcaneus through cuboid to the lateral metatarsals. Joint lines are indicated with pale blue to separate the subtalar, calcaneocuboid, and tarsometatarsal articulations.
