Radiating from the distal leg into the ankle and foot, the anterior tibial artery continues as the dorsalis pedis artery across the dorsal tarsus while the posterior tibial artery divides into the medial and lateral plantar arteries on the plantar aspect. Distally, plantar and dorsal branches contribute to the plantar arch and dorsal metatarsal arteries, which run along the metatarsals and give rise to digital arteries toward the phalanges. Blue-rendered tibia and fibula frame the proximal field, with the talus and calcaneus positioned inferiorly at the ankle and hindfoot, and the tarsals, metatarsals, and toe phalanges extending distally in orderly rays. Fine arteriolar branching becomes most apparent near the metatarsophalangeal region and toes. Small vessels. Clear landmarks. Skeletal reference matters here because many pedal arteries are taught and approached by their relationship to bony contours and joint lines, not by vessel course alone.
