Oriented in posterior aspect, the human clavicle is presented from its acromial (lateral) extremity to its sternal (medial) extremity, with the flattened lateral third transitioning to the more rounded shaft medially. Along the inferior-posterior surface near the lateral end, the conoid tubercle and trapezoid line outline the attachment sites for the coracoclavicular ligament complex, positioned medial to the acromial articular facet for the scapula. Medially, the sternal end broadens for the sternoclavicular joint, where the clavicle meets the manubrium and first costal cartilage. Short and stout. Posterior orientation clarifies why the clavicle functions as a strut between sternum and scapula while still permitting scapulothoracic motion, and it highlights the ligamentous restraints that stabilize the acromioclavicular region.
