Description
Oriented in lateral profile, the thoracic vertebrae and adjacent ribs are presented with emphasis on the costotransverse region, where the rib neck meets the transverse process. The superior costotransverse ligament is positioned superior and slightly posterior to the rib neck, spanning from the crest of the rib neck to the transverse process of the vertebra above. Inferiorly, the inferior costotransverse ligament runs from the superior border of a rib neck to the transverse process of its own vertebra, creating a fibrous interval around the costotransverse joint. Bony context extends through the skull, full vertebral column, sacrum, and portions of the os coxae, maintaining anatomic alignment.
