Description
Shown in close anatomical detail, the ovary is enlarged and ovoid with numerous subcortical follicles arranged peripherally beneath a thickened tunica albuginea, producing the classic string-of-pearls distribution associated with polycystic ovary morphology. Medially, the ovarian hilum and mesovarian attachment indicate the entry point for the ovarian vessels, while the uterine (fallopian) tube courses superiorly and laterally toward the ovarian pole, terminating in fimbriated fringes poised over the ovarian surface. Follicles of varying diameters occupy the cortex, their oocytes centered within anechoic-appearing spaces, and dense central stroma fills the medullary region. Orientation is clear.
