Description
Endometrium occupies the luminal side of the uterine wall, organized into a superficial stratum functionalis and deeper stratum basalis overlying the myometrium. Coiled tubular uterine glands extend from the surface epithelium down toward the basalis, where their basal segments persist near the endometrial, myometrial junction. Intervening endometrial stroma surrounds gland profiles and encloses arterial and venous channels, with larger-caliber vessels coursing deeper and smaller branches approaching the functional layer. Boundaries between functional, basal, and myometrial layers are emphasized by changes in gland density, stromal compactness, and vascular caliber. A layered map.
