Description
Seen in lateral projection, the ulna and radius are presented as paired long bones of the male forearm with a diaphyseal fracture pattern in each, and the proximal fragments displaced anteriorly relative to the distal shafts. Proximally, the radial head aligns with the capitulum while the ulna forms the trochlear notch at the elbow, and distally the radius broadens toward the wrist with the ulna tapering to the ulnar head. Both cortical breaks are rendered sharply, making the step-off and angulation easy to appreciate in true anatomical position. A clean fracture line. Anterior translation of the proximal fragments in a both-bone forearm fracture is not just a geometry problem, it changes forearm rotation by altering the radius-ulna relationship that normally permits pronation and supination around the interosseous membrane and the distal radioulnar joint. In trauma teaching, this view supports quick screening for injury complexes that accompany forearm fractures, including a missed radial head dislocation (Monteggia spectrum) or distal radioulnar joint disruption (Galeazzi pattern), both of which are easier to conceptualize when you can track alignment from elbow to wrist in profile. Malreduction here risks loss of radial bow and chronic limitation of rotation.
