Description
Oriented from a dorsal vantage point, a frontal section through the cranial dura mater is shown draped over the superior aspects of both cerebral hemispheres, with gyri and sulci visible beneath the semi-transparent meningeal membrane. The periosteal and meningeal layers separate along the midline to outline the superior sagittal sinus, while the dural reflections toward the midline imply the falx cerebri descending between the hemispheres. Laterally, the dura remains closely applied to the inner table of the calvaria, maintaining a tighter apposition than the split layers seen at venous sinus formation. Cerebral hemispheric symmetry and the interhemispheric fissure anchor the spatial relationships. Seeing the dura in section from the dorsal aspect clarifies how dural venous sinuses are not free-standing vessels but channels created by separation of dural layers, a point that tends to get lost when learners only see surface views.
