Description
Framed as a full-body anterior figure, the adult female musculature is rendered with selective skin transparency to expose the superficial myo and sarco tissue layers along the face, neck, thorax, upper limb, and anterior abdominal wall. Facial muscles of expression sit superficial to the facial skeleton, while the masseter lies lateral to the mandibular ramus and is continuous inferiorly with the cervical contour. Inferior to the mandible, the sternocleidomastoid courses obliquely from the mastoid process to the manubrium and medial clavicle, with the clavicle and the anterior borders of the scapula visible as bony landmarks deep to the shoulder girdle. Across the thorax, pectoralis major spans from the clavicle and sternum toward the proximal humerus, intercostal muscles fill the spaces between ribs, and the deltoid caps the lateral shoulder before blending distally into the arm where biceps brachii lies anterior to the humerus and triceps brachii occupies the posterior compartment contour. Attention naturally centers on the abdominal wall, where rectus abdominis runs vertically on either side of the linea alba and is bounded laterally by the aponeuroses of external oblique, internal oblique, and transversus abdominis, a relationship that explains both the layered strength of the rectus sheath and its common failure points. Clinically, this is the anatomy you reference when discussing diastasis recti in pregnancy and postpartum patients, trocar placement for laparoscopy, or the planes exploited during open ventral hernia repair. Surface form follows structure. Use this illustration for gross anatomy teaching on the muscular system, for nursing and allied health coursework covering body wall mechanics, or as a publication-ready overview in patient education materials that need accurate muscle placement with recognizable external habitus.
