Description
Seen in lateral profile, the male cranium is rendered with the parietal bone dominating the superolateral vault and a linear fracture pattern radiating outward from the parietal eminence toward the coronal and lambdoid regions. Inferior to the fracture field lie the squamous temporal bone and the root of the zygomatic arch, with the frontal bone and orbital rim positioned anterosuperiorly. The nasal bones and piriform aperture lead into the nasal cavity, emphasized in blue, while the maxillary dentition and alveolar process provide an anterior-inferior landmark for facial orientation. Fracture lines are highlighted in red. Radiating linear fractures centered near the parietal eminence raise the teaching point that cranial vault injuries often propagate along lines of weakness and toward sutures, and that the surface pattern can hint at impact site and energy transfer. Clinically, a parietotemporal extension matters because fractures crossing the course of the middle meningeal artery (deep to the pterion region) increase concern for epidural hematoma, even when the initial external findings look modest.
