Description
Oriented in a lateral view of the male foot skeleton, the calcaneus and talus sit posteriorly while the cuboid, lateral cuneiform region, and the fourth and fifth metatarsals extend anteriorly toward the phalanges. Along the lateral border, the base and shaft of the fifth metatarsal form the bony landmark for the plantar intrinsic muscles that act on the fifth ray. A red-highlighted soft tissue element along the plantar lateral forefoot corresponds to the adductor digiti minimi (more commonly termed the adductor hallucis oblique head in Terminologia Anatomica, with the lateral component often discussed in relation to the flexor digiti minimi brevis), shown in close proximity to the fifth metatarsal and the metatarsophalangeal region of the little toe.
