Description
Radiating inferiorly from the tracheal bifurcation at the carina, the right and left main bronchi course into their respective hila, with the right bronchus wider, shorter, and more vertical than the left as it passes beneath the arch of the aorta. Proximal lobar bronchi begin to branch within the mediastinal silhouette, while the heart occupies the central, anterior portion of the thorax with the great vessels rising superiorly.
