Description
Centered on the opened male cranial cavity, the posterior fossa dura is traced by the meningeal branch of the occipital artery as it courses superiorly and medially from the occipital groove region toward the squamous occipital bone and adjacent dural reflections. Calvarial removal exposes the inner table and dural surface, with the orbits, nasal cavity, and maxillary dentition anchoring orientation so the arterial tree can be read in true anatomical position. Smaller arterial twigs arborize across the meninges, while less prominent venous channels lie in parallel or at crossing points along the inner cranial contour. Fine caliber vessels matter here. Clinically, this is the extracranial to intracranial anastomotic route most often discussed alongside the posterior meningeal supply to the dura of the posterior cranial fossa, a region implicated in suboccipital craniotomy exposures and in dural arteriovenous fistulas that recruit feeders from the occipital artery.
