Description
Positioned along the anteromedial aspect of the knee, the inferior medial genicular vein courses adjacent to the proximal tibia and the medial tibial condyle, running inferior to the medial femoral condyle and deep to the patellar region. Its small-caliber tributaries drain the periarticular venous plexus near the joint line and converge toward the posteromedial corridor where flow continues into the popliteal venous drainage. Femur, tibia, and patella frame the field, with articular cartilage at the distal femur and proximal tibia implied beneath the vascular overlay. Medial structures sit closer to the midline, lateral elements fall away from the viewer. Anterior visualization of this vessel matters because the genicular venous network is the low-profile counterpart to the better-known genicular arteries, and it becomes clinically relevant during anterior and anteromedial approaches to the knee.
