Description
Anteriorly, the right and left lungs fill the thoracic cavity on either side of the midline trachea, with the main bronchi entering at the hila just lateral to the mediastinum. The lung apices extend superiorly toward the thoracic inlet, while the bases sit inferiorly on the dome of the diaphragm, a relationship often accentuated when the abdominal wall and visceral mass are increased.
