Description

Running from the occipital region to the upper thorax, the cervical spine is rendered with C1 through C7 stacked in normal lordosis, transitioning inferiorly toward the thoracic vertebrae. Atlas (C1) sits directly beneath the skull base and cradles the occipital condyles, while the axis (C2) projects the dens superiorly to form the median atlanto-axial pivot. Lateral to each vertebral body, the articular pillars are prominent, with superior and inferior articular processes forming the zygapophysial (facet) joints that guide segmental motion; intervertebral discs appear between C2 and C7, separating adjacent vertebral bodies and aligning centrally along the midline.
