Description
Medial inspection of the male thoracic cage brings the vertebral column into clear relationship with the posterior ribs, where the heads of the costae articulate at the costovertebral joints and the tubercles meet the transverse processes at the costotransverse joints. From these posterior attachments, the rib shafts sweep anterolaterally and then curve toward the sternum, with the internal concavity of each rib forming the boundary of the thoracic cavity.
