Description
Posterior cervical musculature is rendered with the splenius cervicis highlighted against the broader superficial layers of the neck and shoulder girdle in a female figure. Splenius cervicis lies deep to trapezius, running superolaterally from the spinous processes of T3 to T6 to insert on the posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C1 to C3, placing it lateral to the nuchal ligament and medial to the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid (not shown from this dorsal vantage). Superiorly, its fibers blend visually with splenius capitis, while inferiorly it tapers toward the upper thoracic midline near the vertebral column. Clean fiber direction.
