Running anteroinferiorly from the temporal bone, the stylohyoid ligament is rendered as a fibrous cord extending from the styloid process toward the lesser horn and body of the hyoid bone in a mid-sagittal section of the male head and neck. Superiorly and posteriorly, the cranial base and cervical vertebrae align behind the pharyngeal airway, while the mandible with its dentition sits anterior to the upper cervical spine. Around the ligament, regional landmarks such as the masseter on the mandibular ramus and the sternocleidomastoid along the lateral neck provide orientation, and the hyoid rests just superior to the laryngeal framework and proximal trachea. Fiber direction is indicated to clarify muscle vectors. No vessels are shown. Attention to the stylohyoid ligament matters because it anchors the stylohyoid complex that suspends the hyoid and relates directly to swallowing mechanics and suprahyoid function, even when the focus is a single connective structure.
