Description

Beginning at the retroperitoneal kidneys, the animation tracks urine formation from the renal cortex into the medulla, passing through medullary pyramids to the renal papillae and into the minor and major calyces before pooling in the renal pelvis. As the sequence continues, paired ureters descend inferiorly along the posterior abdominal wall, crossing the pelvic brim and entering the urinary bladder at the ureterovesical junctions, with the female urethra exiting the bladder neck and running anterior to the vaginal wall. Spatial cues keep the collecting system centered medially within each kidney while the ureters course inferiorly and slightly anteriorly as they approach the pelvis. Flow is continuous.
