Description
Radiographic anatomy of the female heart fills the midline thorax, with the cardiac silhouette centered in the mediastinum and the apex directed inferiorly and to the left. As the sequence progresses, the right atrium (including the auricle) forms the right heart border while the left ventricle defines most of the left border, and the superior mediastinum is traced upward into the aortic root and ascending aorta. Contrast-style highlighting brings out the pulmonary trunk anterior to the left atrium, its bifurcation into right and left pulmonary arteries, and the venous return through the superior and inferior venae cavae entering the right atrium. Coronary arteries and cardiac veins are introduced as finer opacified channels draped over the myocardium. Clear landmarks. Radiology learners often struggle to translate a flat x-ray appearance into true 3D relationships, and this animation makes the mediastinal contours readable by revealing structures in a deliberate order and tying each one to the silhouette it produces.
