Description
Radiographic rendering frames the female heart as it would appear on a standard chest X-ray, with the cardiac apex projecting inferolaterally to the left and the right atrium forming much of the right cardiac border. Across the sequence, the left ventricle and left atrial appendage (auricle) contour the left margin, while the ascending aorta rises superiorly to the aortic arch before continuing as the descending thoracic aorta along the left of the vertebral column. The pulmonary trunk emerges anteriorly from the right ventricle and bifurcates into the right and left pulmonary arteries, and the superior vena cava descends on the right to enter the right atrium as the inferior vena cava ascends from below. Coronary arteries and cardiac veins are indicated in projection rather than as a dissected surface anatomy, reinforcing how overlap and foreshortening shape what you can and cannot identify on radiographs.
