Description
Rotating through the lateral face and upper neck, the animation localizes the major paired salivary glands in a female model: the parotid gland anteroinferior to the external acoustic meatus, the submandibular (submaxillary) gland tucked beneath the body of the mandible, and the sublingual gland seated in the anterior floor of mouth. As the sequence advances, each gland is related to nearby landmarks, with the parotid spanning superficial to the masseter and wrapping toward the mandibular ramus, while the submandibular gland straddles the posterior border of the mylohyoid between submandibular triangle and oral cavity. Ductal pathways are traced in motion, following the parotid (Stensen) duct across the masseter to pierce the buccinator opposite the maxillary second molar, and the submandibular (Wharton) duct coursing anteriorly to open at the sublingual caruncle beside the lingual frenulum. Clear orientation. Clinical relevance comes from where these glands fail and where clinicians intervene. Obstruction and infection are anatomy-driven: submandibular sialolithiasis tends to track the long, uphill course of Wharton duct and presents with postprandial pain and swelling, whereas parotitis and parotid neoplasms raise surgical concern because branches of the facial nerve traverse the parotid parenchyma. Animated continuity also clarifies why sublingual lesions (ranulas) expand in the floor of mouth and can extend into the neck when they dissect around the posterior mylohyoid margin.
