Description
Anterior brachial fascia (deep fascia of the arm) is presented as a dense sleeve investing the flexor compartment, continuous proximally with the axillary fascia and distally with antebrachial fascia across the cubital fossa. Medially, the fascia blends firmly with the medial intermuscular septum, which anchors to the medial supracondylar ridge of the humerus and partitions the anterior compartment from the posterior triceps compartment. Epimysial planes over biceps brachii and brachialis are implied deep to the fascial layer, with the septal attachment defining a clear medial boundary relative to the humeral shaft. That medial septal adherence matters in the operating room and on cross-sectional imaging because it fixes the deep fascial envelope to bone and creates a bounded space where edema, hematoma, or infection can track. In acute compartment syndrome of the arm, pressure rises within this noncompliant fascial cylinder, and timely decompression requires an incision that respects the medial septum while avoiding the neurovascular bundle, including the brachial artery and median nerve that course in the medial bicipital groove. Palpation and surgical planning often reference these fascial constraints. Tight tissue does not forgive delay. Use this asset for teaching upper limb compartment anatomy in gross anatomy or surgical anatomy courses, for illustrating fasciotomy approaches and compartment syndrome in trauma or orthopedic texts, and for clarifying the relationship between deep fascia and intermuscular septa in radiology or sonography modules of the upper arm.
