Description
Arising from the renal hilum in a coronal section of the adult male kidney, the renal vein is shown as the dominant blue outflow channel lying slightly anterior to the corresponding renal artery, while the beige renal pelvis sits more posterior and central as it narrows inferiorly into the ureter. Peripheral renal cortex surrounds the medulla, with renal pyramids projecting toward the papillae and minor calyces, and fine striations suggesting collecting ducts and nephron organization within the pyramids. Segmental and interlobar vessels branch from the hilar trunks and course between pyramids toward the corticomedullary junction. Orientation is clear. That anterior relationship of vein to artery at the hilum is not just textbook anatomy, it is a planning detail for nephrectomy, hilar dissection, and renal transplantation when controlling inflow and outflow, and it helps explain why venous injury can occur early if dissection proceeds anteriorly without defining the arterial plane.
