Description
Cut through an anterior sectional plane, the male kidney is opened to expose the renal cortex peripherally and the renal medulla centrally, with distinct renal pyramids separated by renal columns. At the hilum on the medial border, the renal vein is presented as the dominant blue outflow channel, converging from interlobar and arcuate venous tributaries that track along the bases and sides of the pyramids before exiting the organ. Deep to this vascular network, the renal pelvis occupies the central sinus, tapering inferiorly into the ureter as it leaves the kidney.
