Posteriorly oriented, the right pulmonary artery is followed into its superior segmental branch (A6) as it enters the lower lobe and divides into smaller segmental vessels and arterioles. The artery courses alongside the segmental bronchus to the superior segment, with the bronchial tree visible as a branching scaffold deep to the visceral pleura, while the heart sits medial to both lungs with the great vessels clustered at the hilum. Segmental relationships read cleanly from this angle: hilar structures lie medial, peripheral arterial branches radiate laterally and inferiorly within the parenchyma. Color coding separates pulmonary arteries from pulmonary veins returning toward the left atrium. A posterior view of A6 matters because it aligns with how surgeons and bronchoscopists localize the superior segment of the right lower lobe during segmentectomy and during evaluation of posterior-basal disease patterns. Small anatomical shifts at the hilum can alter the relationship between the superior segmental artery and the superior segmental bronchus, a point that becomes concrete when planning a VATS approach or when correlating CTA findings in pulmonary embolism that lodges at the segmental level.
