Arising from the right pulmonary artery, the posterior segmental artery to the right upper lobe courses laterally and posteriorly toward the bronchopulmonary segment supplying the posterior segment (S2). In an anterior projection, its branching can be followed as it passes behind the anterior segmental vasculature and toward the posterior aspect of the hilum, running in close company with the segmental bronchus and accompanying pulmonary veins that return oxygenated blood to the left atrium. Proximal landmarks logically include the main pulmonary trunk and right pulmonary artery near the heart, with the trachea superior to the great vessels. Color separation of arteries and veins clarifies flow direction at a glance. Segmental arterial anatomy matters most when you need to think in segments, not lobes.
