Description
Seen from the lateral aspect of the right knee (genu), the femoral artery transitions through the adductor hiatus to become the popliteal artery, which lies posterior to the joint line and gives off genicular branches that sweep laterally around the femoral condyle and tibial plateau. Anterior to these vessels sit the patella and patellar tendon, while the lateral retinaculum and capsule form the superficial soft tissue boundary where the lateral genicular arteries run close to bone. Blue venous channels accompany the arterial tree, with superficial drainage tracking toward the great saphenous system and deeper veins paralleling the popliteal vessels.
