Arterial branches supplying the medial aspect of the genu course around the joint line, with the popliteal artery positioned posterior to the femoral condyles before dividing into the anterior and posterior tibial arteries distal to the popliteus. Medially, the superior and inferior medial genicular arteries sweep anteriorly from the popliteal trunk, hugging the capsule and skirting the margins of the medial femoral condyle and medial tibial condyle. Contributions from the descending genicular artery and the anterior tibial recurrent artery typically join this network near the medial patellar retinaculum and proximal tibia, where small arterioles interconnect in the periarticular plexus. Accompanying venae comitantes and superficial venous channels may be shown in parallel, reinforcing the neurovascular corridors along the medial knee.
