Description
Seen in lateral profile, the male second lumbar vertebra (L2) is centered with its large vertebral body positioned anteriorly and the vertebral arch and spinous process projecting posteriorly toward the midline. Broad transverse processes extend laterally from the junction of pedicle and lamina, and the superior and inferior articular processes align in the sagittal plane to form zygapophysial (facet) joints with L1 above and L3 below.
