Description
Running from the lateral margin of the sacrum toward the posterior-inferior pelvis, the sacrotuberous ligament appears as a broad, coarse band spanning to the ischial tuberosity. In profile, the ischium sits inferior and posterior to the acetabulum, while the iliac crest rises superiorly and the lumbar vertebrae stack posterior to the pelvic brim. A total hip arthroplasty is present, with the prosthetic femoral head seated within the acetabular component and the proximal femur extending distally. Clear bony landmarks. Because it anchors the sacrum to the ischial tuberosity, the sacrotuberous ligament helps resist sacral nutation and stabilizes the posterior pelvic ring under load.
