Description
From a posterior, superior-facing vantage on the male brain, the cerebral hemispheres form the lateral margins with their gyri and sulci framing the posterior midline. Deep to the hemispheric parenchyma, the choroid plexus is emphasized as a lobulated, spongy vascular frond projecting into the ventricular system, most consistent with the body and atrium (trigone) of the lateral ventricles adjacent to the telencephalon. Inferiorly in the field, the brainstem and a portion of the cerebellum provide orientation to the posterior fossa, while the basal cerebral arteries are rendered in red, with the arterial circle (circle of Willis) positioned anterior and inferior relative to the posteriorly viewed ventricular structures. Choroid plexus anatomy matters because it is the dominant site of cerebrospinal fluid production and a practical landmark when teaching ventricular compartments and CSF circulation. In clinical imaging, a prominent choroid plexus can be mistaken for intraventricular hemorrhage on noncontrast CT, and physiologic choroid plexus calcification in adults commonly appears in the atria of the lateral ventricles. Neurosurgical approaches that traverse the ventricular system, including endoscopic third ventriculostomy planning and intraventricular tumor workups, often require you to orient choroid plexus position relative to nearby vascular structures and the ventricular roof and floor.
