Description
Running as the lateral column of the erector spinae, the iliocostalis lumborum is isolated in red beneath the reflected skin in a full-body posterior view. Its muscular slips arise from the iliac crest and sacral region via the thoracolumbar fascia, then ascend superolaterally toward the angles of the lower ribs, lying lateral to longissimus and well lateral to spinalis near the spinous processes. Orientation is clear.
