Posteriorly, the cerebellar hemispheres sit inferior to the occipital lobes and dorsal to the brainstem, their folia and the midline vermis discernible through the semi-transparent cranium. A widened separation between the hemispheres exposes the midline contour, with the cerebellum occupying the posterior cranial fossa above the foramen magnum. Surrounding bony landmarks include the occipital bone and posterior cranial vault, while inferiorly the atlas and axis lead into the cervical vertebral column, framing the upper spinal cord in the vertebral canal. Blue tinting isolates the cerebellum against the paler cerebrum. Clear orientation. Clinically, this posterior perspective tracks how the hindbrain (metencephalon) relates to the tentorium cerebelli, the fourth ventricle region, and the cervicomedullary junction, a relationship that matters in posterior fossa mass effect and tonsillar herniation through the foramen magnum.
